Should you get a divorce during the holidays?

Handling marital issues can be difficult at any time during the year. But there is something about the holiday season that may make things harder to deal with; especially if you are seriously considering a divorce. Your friends and family members may be encouraging you to wait till after the holiday season because who wants to be a wet blanket during what is supposed to be a festive time of year.

Additionally, the holiday season means so much for children. It is a time for them to make memories that last a lifetime, and it would be difficult for both parents and kids to have the season marred by an abrupt split (unless the circumstances require it).

If you are considering a change in your marital status, it helps to keep the children in mind. Kids want to share the holidays with both parents, and they genuinely want you both to get along. After all, having a family is what every kid wants during the holidays (second to presents on Christmas Day). So if showing your kids that being together as a family is important, this may be the choice for you.

If you feel that you must make a change, but the holiday season is not the right time, there is no harm in interviewing lawyers to see who you feel comfortable working with. After all, you are going to be disclosing a great deal of personal information and divorcing may be a very emotional process for you. Because of this, it is important to choose someone who you can work with.
